Tools made for the work, and objects developed at the bench.
Making tools and jigs is part of making the work. A shaped handle, a fitted brass sole or a purpose-made guide brings material knowledge into direct use. These smaller projects explore the same questions of grain, geometry and repair found in the architectural work.
The kitchen stool developed at the bench through hand-tool work and a mix of joints: dovetailed and half-lapped stretchers, round dowel stretchers, and double-wedged mortise-and-tenon connections at the top. The top was rough-milled by machine before hand fitting.
The frame saw combines oak with an old-growth pine spine to reduce weight. A carved rosewood toggle tensions the cord; leather-wrapped handles and brass blade fittings complete the tool. Cutting boards explore grain direction and contrasting color, while the smaller tools put shaping and fit directly to use.
